“Lost” Finale on ABC

Ok, so are there any other “Lost” fans out there in the Voxosphere?  The finale aired last week, although I saw it posthumously as I was still at Origins/Ethos.

But what about that finale? Was it good, or really bad?  Do the producers actually have a plan, or are they just making this stuff up as they go along?  A Four toed statue?  Fake Henry Gale is “him”? Saiid has the brilliant plan to sail around to help his losties, only to reveal he can’t actually sail?  Libby just gives a boat away?  The hatch is gone (perhaps)? Sky turning white and weird?  Arctic monitoring?  Widmoreing?  A cunning plot twist, or X-files all over again?

Sure, it’s captured the corporate imagination in pop-culture, and I am wondering “why”? For me it’s (at least partially) the exploration of faith, reason and mystery.  After all, my strengthsfinder profile gives high importance to “the interconnectedness of all things”, “belief . . . giving a defined purpose for life”, “a craving to know more”, “what the future could be”.

However, it did occur to me that the hatch thingy with the TV monitors from a couple of episodes ago may represent a cynical message from the producers . . . Is it possible that the question mark hatch represents nothing to do with the mythology of the island, but rather it represents us? We come, we sit in front of the screen, and we watch the goings on of our Losties.  We don’t have to DO anything . . . just observe.  With fandom having created podcasts, blogs, etc exploring the mythology . . . Could it be that we are the ones who are filling the journals and sending them through the pipe to the garbage pile - all for nothing?  Could this be an observation from the creators on the transient nature of popculture?  Of us?

Just a thought?  Might the viewing station be a perfect analogy for our search to find meaning vicariously, as opposed to actually engaging in life?  And at what point does the “nothing” become “something” simply because a critical mass of individuals are “into it”.  As my friend CF pointed out . . .  ”Even if it’s about nothing, it’s about something because we’re all into it”

Just a couple of thoughts . . .

oh my, another Lostie. I never watched the show till this season’s finale. When I ask all my friends who are fans about what’s going on, after investing 2 years in the show, it’s like they don’t know any more than I do.

I guess that’s probably the appeal of the show.
