Arachnophobia Multiplied
We were hanging at our good friends D&D’s house on Friday for dinner. After a wonderful meal (with exceptional conversation and laughter), we were getting ready to leave. As I opened the door a spider ran in, having been waiting on the step. It was somewhat large, (looked like it may have been a wolf spider), and as it scuttled in D stomped her foot down to stop it and crushed it. Imagine the scene (like something from a horror movie) as the spider disintegrated right in front of our eyes into literally hundreds of baby spiders dipersing all over the floor. It was truly an incredible sight - from one spider to hundreds covering a massive section of the floor, and spreading.
It quickly dawned on us that the spider must have been carrying her egg sac and was looking for a cool place to let them hatch, and that D had “gently assisted” the process. The sight was surreal, and a definite keeper to see - An arachnid mother and her hundreds of offspring that she had been carrying and nurturing. Unfortunately whilst it was truly awesome to watch, it was also somewhat sad to see that the spiders had to be gotten rid of.
Just another reason to love Florida!! Alligators, snakes, and now pregnant spiders - Feels like I live in Jurassic Park . . . And I love it!!
