Essence of Humanity
The future is now! Take a look at this article that outlines how “a Japanese-led research team said it had made a seeing, hearing and smelling robot that can carry human beings and is aimed at helping care for the country’s growing number of elderly.” Full article here.
As technology continues to progress, it makes me wonder . . .what is truly the essence of “being human”? I know it sounds very 1960s Asimov-like, but how will technology truly be integrated as we move into the future? Is the place we have moved into where we create robots to look after our loved one a good place or not? In other words, does this represent a move toward the “great big beautiful tomorrow” or a step away from relational responsibility? Probably neither extreme, and certainly it’ll depend on how it is used . . . Still, I find it fascinating that more and more headlines these days read like science fiction!!
