The Future of Film?
“In the future, almost everything that gets shown in theaters will be indie movies. I predict that by 2025 the average movie will cost only $15 million.” - George Lucas
Was that a smirk? Does Lucas really believe that is the future of movies? See full article here. When movies like Kong cannot make their money back, is it time to to relook at what constitutes a “good” movie. This is compounded by the buzz regarding “Crash” winning best movie at the Oscars - a movie shot for 6.5 M$ outside the system and then picked up for distribution . . .
Whilst this trend (if it is one) is great for “Story creators”, it also got me thinking:
* Does this mirror an appetite in society for “stories” over “spectacle”?
* How does this affect the way we communicate with one another?
* Are there ways of communicating (both at corporate events and one on one), that are more “spectacle” than “story”?ÂÂ
