Celtic Way by George Hunter

I am currently reading “The Celtic Way of Evangelism . . .How Christianity Can Reach The West Again” by George Hunter . . . An extremely interesting book.  In it Hunter outlines “Roman” and “Celtic” models of “evangelism”.  He posits that the Roman way emphasises “Believe and then become part of”, while the Celts emphasised “Become part of, and then you believe”.  It seems that this second model (I am only part way through the book) has definite links to “Missionality” - Being the church as opposed to doing church.

I haven’t read that much on Celtic spirituality and this seems a good book to start with - I’d love to hear any comments from anyone who has read it . . .

On another note, I’ve been busy preparing for the Leaders Lunch this Sunday - I am getting together all the leaders of any of the “equipping” parts of the church (adult, youth, children) for lunch.  We’re going to be using activities, good food and fun to hopefully continue to encourage us all that we are “agents of transformation through which folks are unleashed to BE the church”.  It’s exciting, and a lot to put together, since we’ll be rolling out the vision for the upcoming year.  C will be doing the activities, and S and I will be doing the teaching time. . . I’m praying God will use it and planning for a great time!

Mark, you’re referring to two excellent reads. The Celtic Way of Evangelism is an excellent easy read to prompt discussion. The author, George Hunter, is on the IMN faculty this year.

Post Capitalist Society by Peter Drucker was the right book at the right time –that was a long time ago — for me. Excellent. Excellent.

    Thanks, Alex - Good recommendations!

If anyone has any recommended reads as I continue to study culture, faith and sociological shifts, please let me know . . .

    All input is much appreciated!
